Common Interview Questions & Answer Guidance

Q1: What is the primary statutory role and mandate of the NPPA?

Answer Guidance: Explain that NPPA is an attached office of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, established in 1997. Its core functions are to fix and revise ceiling prices of controlled bulk drugs and formulations, enforce the provisions of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order (DPCO), recover overcharged amounts from manufacturers, and monitor prices of decontrolled formulations to ensure essential medicines remain affordable across India.

Q2: What is the operational distinction between Scheduled and Non-Scheduled formulations under DPCO 2013?

Answer Guidance: Scheduled formulations are those included in Schedule-I of DPCO (derived from the National List of Essential Medicines – NLEM) for which NPPA fixes a mandatory ceiling price. Non-scheduled formulations are all other pharmaceutical products where manufacturers may fix the Maximum Retail Price (MRP), provided the price is not increased by more than 10% in the preceding 12-month period.

Q3: How is the ceiling price of a scheduled formulation computed under DPCO 2013?

Answer Guidance: Under paragraph 4 of DPCO 2013, the ceiling price is determined on a market-based pricing mechanism. It is calculated by taking the simple average of retail prices of all brands of that medicine having a market share equal to or greater than 1% of the total market turnover on that formulation, plus adding a 16% retailer margin.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: Can fresh B.Pharm graduates without prior work experience apply for Young Professional (Pharma)?

Yes. The essential qualification is a Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) from a recognized university. While pharmaceutical sector experience is considered desirable and given preference, freshers possessing strong academic records and MS Office skills are fully eligible to apply.

Q2: Is there any written examination fee or challan required for this application?

No. The recruitment is completely free of charge (Rs. 0 fee) for all categories. Selection is conducted purely through academic merit shortlisting (70 marks) and personal interview (30 marks) along with a qualifying Computer Proficiency Test.

Q3: What is the initial contract tenure and work location of the selected candidates?

The initial contract tenure is 1 year, extendable up to 2 additional years based on performance and office requirements. An annual increment of 5% on the consolidated monthly fee is admissible on completion of 1 year of satisfactory service. The posting location is NPPA Headquarters, New Delhi.
